Saga Goryu – several students from Portland and Seattle attended the 1200th anniversary celebrations held at the Daikaku-ji in Kyoto from October 12-14, 2018 including Chapter members, David Komeiji, Michiko Kornhauser, Mieko Heriford and Julie Nakao.  The ikebana exhibition by Saga Goryu Schools in Japan was awe inspiring and humbling.  As David observes, “We had a rare chance to see and experience our school in its full glory.” Several members of the group also attended a one-day workshop with the teachers who have previously come to Portland from Kyoto.  It was a happy reunion.

Ohara School – On October 29 to November 3, 2018, students of Ohara convened in Victoria, British Columbia for the North American Ohara School Teachers Association Conference. Chapter members, Carolyn Alter, Diane Sayziri, Barbara Bava and Phyllis Danielson attended and returned inspired and refreshed from the series of workshops with Headmaster, Hiroki Ohara.
