The Emperor’s Birthday Party, hosted by Consul General of Japan, Mr. and Mrs. Kojiro Uchiyama, was held on December 9, at the Hilton Hotel, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Board members of our chapter were among invited guests. Our President, Heida Bruce of Ikenobo School, placed a dignified arrangement fit for the occasion at the entrance to the hall. Vendors displayed products inspired by Japanese culture.

Consul General Uchiyama opened the party by introducing the Governor of Oregon, Kate Brown, who addressed the party, offering congratulations. Koto and Shakuhachi music accompanied participants singing both Japanese and American national anthems. Invited guests filled the large hall in the lower level of the Hilton, enjoying the company and refreshments.
