Okinawa Video is Highlight of September Meeting
While enjoying a delicious luncheon at the Multnomah Athletic Club on September 25, local II members shared another treat: Nana Bellerud presented segments from the DVD of the Ikebana International 11th World Convention held in Okinawa which she attended, representing our chapter. She showed the creation of grand scale arrangements, some of them filling the large stage. A number of these demonstrations included performances by the iemoto (heads of ikebana schools) which wowed attendees, both actual and virtual, with their dramatic color and motion. Glimpses of other events at the convention included many other exhibits, hands-on workshops, and presentations at this quinquennial international gathering.
Our own Portland meeting featured arrangements by Ikenobo, Heida Bruce; Ohara Seattle, Phyllis Danielson; Saga Goryu, Julie Nakao; Ohara, Portland, Carolyn Alter; Sogetsu, Nana Bellerud. Gnarly gourds graced the dining tables and greeted participants at the entrance to the meeting room. Click to see photos.
