Message from the President
Greetings! I’ve just returned from a trip to Japan where I represented our Chapter at the 11th World Convention, April 12-15, in Okinawa, then in Tokyo, I visited family and friends and took lessons at the Sogetsu Headquarters. It was exhilarating. I look forward to giving you a full report and showing the DVD of the Convention, perhaps at the September General Meeting. I came away from the convention with the realization that I.I. is a very formal and prestigious group. This is something I hadn’t considered coming from very casual and relaxed Portland. Still, people are people and we all love ikebana! Only at the I.I. World Convention can one see demonstrations by seven Iemotos (headmasters) of major schools. Representing our Chapter in the business meetings and leading a discussion meeting kept me busy but, in-between, I managed to see and enjoy the impressive exhibitions and demonstrations. It is truly Friendship through Flowers with people from all over the world. Over 1,000 ikebana enthusiasts attended the Convention!
I look forward to seeing everyone at our June General Meeting when we will install the officers for 2017-2018, have a wonderful program, and enjoy a delicious lunch at the MAC with ikebana friends! This meeting marks the end of another year and this message is my last as your president. It was my complete pleasure to end my term by representing you at the convention.
Friendship through Flowers,
Nana G. Bellerud
