September General Meeting
Phyllis Danielson presented a program that combined her recent learning experience from attending a recent NAOTA Conference and seasonal decorations ideas.
NAOTA (North American Ohara Teachers Association) holds conferences, bringing professors from Japan, to hold workshops and demonstrations. The August 2016 conference featured a public demonstration by Hiroki Ohara, Headmaster of the Ohara School of Ikebana.
Phyllis demonstrated an Ohara-style landscape moribana arrangement, using shippo and returning to basic techniques, rather than relying on kenzan. She also demonstrated the morimono arrangement and showed how its versatility and low maintenance made it suitable as seasonal decoration.
In anticipation of the holidays, Phyllis assisted by Judy Harpel, demonstrated how black or green bamboo could by fastened together with cord and hot glue or nails to create a wreath form. The wreath could be easily decorated and be appropriate throughout the year.
25 members attended this first General Meeting for 2016-2017 held at Albertina-Kerr.
Welcome roses were presented to new members, Lou Ellen Barnes Willis, Cindy Hepworth and Claire McInerney.
