Tanabata, the Star Festival, is a time to write tanzaku, (wishes written on paper strips) to tie onto a bamboo branch and to gaze up into the summer sky. Come hear the story about the star-crossed lovers, Orihime (star Vega,) and Hikoboshi (star Altair) separated by the Milky Way. Find out why we must wish for good weather (no rain) on July 7.
Best of all, take home your very own bamboo branch that YOU decorated with your tanzaku, kusudama, colorful paper medicine balls; ami-kazari, an origami milky way; a fishing net for luck, lanterns and more — or as much as you can fold and cut. Materials, instruction and supplies will be provided.
