In Memory of Marilyn Schuberg …
October 3rd was a gorgeous autumn day to honor Marilyn Schuberg.
7/4/1925 -9/15/2015
At the standing room only memorial service, her ikebana friends in attendance included Donna Jean McDaniel, who spoke of Marilyn’s love for ikebana and Maggie Drake, who described Marilyn’s involvement with the Japanese Garden.
Using Marilyn’s favorite colors and a favorite vase selected by her family, Judy Jensen and I made an arrangement with Dahlias, Nandina, Hanging Heleconia, Maple, Asperagus Fern and Canna leaves.
In the entire room was this single arrangement.
As the service concluded, the arrangement suddenly brightened with sunlight, drawing gasps from people. It was as if Marilyn’s spirit momentarily joined us.
After the service, at the family’s request, the arrangement was moved to a coffee table at Terwilliger Plaza where Marilyn used to place her arrangements for the residents to enjoy. It was a very heart-felt service. We miss our Ikebana Friend.
